The Department of English, Rhetoric and Writing emphasizes courses and degrees that help students learn and apply writing strategies, communication skills, reading proficiencies and critical thinking to enhance their academic, professional and personal endeavors.
Effective communication and analytical skills are perhaps the most important in today’s information-driven society. In your literature and writing classes you will gain an appreciation of literature and its historical importance, and you will learn to formulate your own ideas in ways that inform, enlighten and persuade.
Graduates with degrees from this department go on to find employment in a variety of fields, from business and banking to education and entertainment.
Programs lead to the Bachelor of Arts in English, Bachelor of Arts in Rhetoric and Writing, and Bachelor of Science in English with Teacher Licensure. Minors are available in English, Rhetoric and Writing, and Creative Writing.
