While you do not have to have a portfolio to gain admission into your first year of foundational art and design classes at UAFS, an acceptable portfolio is required to declare a major in art and graphic design and continue into their sophomore year.
Students who wish to be accepted into the Graphic Design or Studio Arts program, beginning at the sophomore level, are required to submit a comprehensive portfolio of projects from all ART/GRDS Foundations courses. Students must pass this course to be admitted into the Graphic Design or Studio Art program.
Admissions Portfolio is designed to confirm that a freshman rising to sophomore status in the graphic design or studio arts program has an adequate grasp of the skills and concepts addressed in the foundation-level art/grds courses to succeed in his/her higher-level design classes. Without such competence, a quality performance in those upper-level classes is problematic.
This course provides to the student an opportunity to address any weaknesses in his/her portfolio under the individual guidance of the full-time studio arts faculty.
